Songfacts: Syd is the name of the witch who came upon and eventually separated Turnbull and Screwt. She isn't a nice person, and the things described in this song are horrible and nasty. The melody and idea of the song came to me in a dream. It also uses a guitar where all the strings are tuned to D and a tanpura drone in the background. Another guitar is playing humpback whale nosies with a slide over the pickups.
